About Me

Hi! I'm Lexie :) Welcome to my blog.
Here are 10 things you might like to know about me:
1. I'm 21 years old
2. I'm in my third year of Medicine at the University of Birmingham.

3. Last year I took a year out from my medical degree to intercalate in Medical Humanities at the University of Bristol. BEST. YEAR. EVER!
4. I hate science, so people often wonder why I'm doing medicine. I'm wondering about that too, and I'm still not sure of the reason. But I do love MedHums, so if everything works out alright I'm thinking researching/teaching MedHums part time whilst practicing medicine.
5. I love reading and creative writing. The ulitimate dream is to have a book published...and maybe write scripts for theatre/television.
6. I've started publishing poetry on my blog.

7. I was diagnosed with clinical depression in November 2010, but I'm on the mend.
8. I'm a chronic insomniac.
9. I'm the eldest daughter. My parents are divorced and I now have a half sister as well as my 5 year old brother who loves playing games on his XBox but then comes out with gems like "the human body is made to hug" and "to clear the bullcrap from your mind you must first flush the toilet".
10. I'm also on Twitter (@ComplicatedItIs). Follow me?

Hope you like what you read!

Toodles,
Lexie

  1. ooh you have IBS? that's interesting - im doing my research year doing a study that one day (hopefully) will help sufferers of IBS with their symptoms.

  3. Your blog is interesting, i like your style :)
I just wanted to comment on point 3 above... I'm a final year medic and like you, not that massive a fan of science. I'm far more literary or numerically minded than scientific and I hated med school for my first 2 years. But my love affair began when I started doing real medicine in clinics and now I can't imagine doing anything else!
Hang in there, I'm sure your love affair will start sometime too!
Keep up the good work, your blog is awesome :)

    1. Thanks Nick :) I've decided to give 3rd year a go with an open mind and just take it as it comes. Hopefully something will click :D
      Thanks for reading :)

  4. I've just started FY1 and had a rough few years managing depression and med school - it's not easy, but it's doable, and when your first patient says 'thank you' for something you've done for them, it's all worth it. Look after yourself and don't stop dreaming - medicine needs people with a creative side. xxDr Charlie
