Flush Away your Sorrows...

It’s the holidays. Apparently. Because Easter means revision and revision means exams and exams means mental torture followed by physical death. The type where you stop breathing. Because man, have I got shed loads to do this Easter. Observe. I must:
Revise for my exams. 8 modules worth of exams
Revise for my first OSCE without a reflex hammer or eye-torch thingy or willing volunteers
Write my essay for Lit in Med
Do my presentation for Lit in Med
Go to my cousin’s registrar (part of the Eternal Wedding saga! Seriously, it’s been two years, just do everything already)
Find somewhere AMAZING to take Mum on her 50th
See my dad and his pregnant wife
         Sort out my mitigation
Try and get the government from taxing me???
         Stop complaining.
It’s not actually that much, if you think about it. I just need to get a grip and move on. Apologises in advance for my lack of blogging over the next few months...
Quick word about photo albums – because of my mum’s upcoming birthday I found myself in the attic last week looking for photos of her in her “Glory Days” so they could be stuck up around the office at work and laughed at. I don’t get it either, I think it’s a middle-aged thing. But since then we’ve had almost every album/photo pack downstairs and looking at them gives me this horribly weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. According to my brother it’s nostalgia but I think it’s more akin to guilt. As a kid my brother had these amazing chipmunk cheeks - the kind that attracts old lady’s pinched fingers - but seeing him that young and cheeky and innocent made me all...I suppose I’m just getting old.
Last Thursday I went back to my old school for a poetry evening. It was amazing, not just because I managed to get Mum to come with me, but I got to see my old school and all my old teachers and was accosted my some Upper Sixth girls who actually remembered me. Everything really cheered me up. The main part of the night was Luke Wright, an amazing poet who was one of my tutors on an Arvon course I went on.

(I love this one!)
He didn’t remember me but my Mum thought he was handsome; it’s weird when your Mum comments on things like that. Even weirder that I’ve discussed the attractiveness related pros and cons of the Ninth and Tenth Doctors with her and my aunty... (Matt Smith in the Times last Saturday. Just saying :p )

"Life should always be better than a lemon crescent" - Matt Smith
I leave you with a Quote of the Day from my from my little brother. He manages to come out with the most worldly things despite only being 14:
“To clear the bullcrap from your mind you must first flush the toilet”.
About as clear as a Chinese proverb and yet, somehow, it makes perfect sense. So I’m off to find the flusher...handle...thing on the side of the box on the toilet that you pull...
Toodles
:D

  1. I love the title of this post. And your brother's words of wisdom, which made me chuckle and think simultaneously. I think you have a little Buddha in the making there! Is he any good at bending spoons with his mind?
Also, your list of things to do made me feel quite ashamed for complaining about my own lump of coal. I send you respect and good luck. But I agree - lists are so fickle - you make them so you know how much you have to do, and they somehow make it look like you have a lot more than you actually do... I feel dizzy. But you know what I mean. Hopefully. Just imagine how good it'll feel when you can check everything on that list OFF :D!
As for Matt Smith/Doctor Who, I don't actively watch it, but I'll have a little glimpse now and then, (I believe it used to be on right before Being Human), and I always think the doctors are rather... yum. Even though they're never conventionally yum. They are still... yum.

Also, this is totally unrelated, but I realised I don't actually know your name! If it's a secret, that's cooooooool, and I'll give you a code name, cause they're great fun.

Anyway, good luck with your big list and remember to have nice big breaks so your brain doesn't implode and run out of your nose in some kind of cranial soup :D! Your mother probably would not appreciate having to clean up the mess. I know mine wouldn't.

Oh, and happy birthday to your mother!

    Byeeeeeeee :D!

  2. Hi Rosie!!! I love reading your comments - they always make me smile!

I don't think he's a little Buddha (he likes shooting games on the XBox too much) but he does come out with some little gems :) I'll test the spoon thing and get back you you :)

The crossing things of lists thing is the best bit about making lists! And thank you for the luck :) And the respect, although I don't think I deserve it. Never feel ashamed for complaining, trust me that's the entrance to a horrid pit of rabid dogs.

Have you ever watched Grey's Anatomy? There are some uber-yum doctors on there. They all have nicknames like McDreamy and McSteamy too. I try and convince my mum that I watch it to learn medical things but we both know that isn't always true lol

Yeah, it's kinda meant to be a secret. The whole idea of this was for it to be anonymous so I didn't get disowned or anything. But feel free to make up a code name, I need something better than "A" to go by!
    Thank you!
    *Waves* Byeee :D !

  3. HELLO!
(Firstly, eww to Matt Smith and anything Doctor Who related. Yes, you may verbally abuse me because of this lol.)
But woo on the poetry evening! And the fact you enjoyed it despite taking place at your old school! (Schools are now weird for us university folk etc.)
And A, I KNOW YOU! Well, I bet I could find out if I was to become a detective for a day in Birmingham. Ahem. No? =P
But yay on the blog post in general!
    =D

  4. HI!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thank you for the follow!
I won't verbally abuse you lol. People my age aren't meant to get this excited over Doctor Who anyway!
YOU DON'T KNOW ME!! But feel free to try! I promise that I'll let you know if you get it right :)

  5. When I stumbled home last night and commented the above, I was vaguely aware I had more to say, but I didn't want to overload this wee comment box, plus my eyes were not blinking simultaneously, which is a sure sign you need to go to bed ASAP. So I'll make an attempt at a concise supplementary comment. I stress the word 'attempt'.

I am extremely glad you like my comments! I like yours too! Smiles all round!

LOL @ 'a horrid pit of rabid dogs'. What a vivid image :).

I HAVE INDEED watched Grey's Anatomy! Although I wasn't lucky enough to have an academic-related excuse :(. I agree, the doctors on that show are ridiculously yum, but my favourite was George, who is decidedly not Doctor Yum. What is it with medical dramas and yummy doctors?!

Ahhh fun! I like the whole alias thing. I have one, but it looks like an Inuit guy's name, so it tends to confuse people. Hmm... I don't know. Why don't YOU think of something you'd like to be called and we'll all start calling you that! Otherwise you'll end up being named after the nearest inanimate object.

    Anyway!

That poem was bloody brilliant O_O. Why have I never heard of him before?! If I ever met him I'd expect him to just talk in rhyme. He's kind of like a poetic Eminem @_@. AND YOU GOT TUTORED BY HIM?! Hello jealousy :D!

I am intrigued by this sense of quasi-guilt you get when looking at old photo albums. I start to feel quite nauseous looking at them after a while, and I feel kind of detached from them, as if I've got amnesia and I can't remember being that person. But guilt... Hmm... You should totally elaborate on that!

As for returning to school etc, I can totally relate! It is one of the nicest feelings ever, especially if you go at night, and you feel like A Grown Up. And you don't have any homework to hand in the next morning. Except my school is now a pile of rubble. It's rather upsetting :(. Also, doesn't it kind of freak you out that by virtue of being in uni you are automatically older than every single high school student O_O?

  6. Aww, I miss George. He was all cute and cuddly, like a cool big brother. Although I think I prefer Derek...*daydream*. Mark's too full of himself, but I love him with Lexie. Bless. Which reminds me, need to watch last week's episode!

Luke is amazing! And he's so down to earth too when you meet him. He's kind of the unoffical poet in residence of my school, which is awesome! Apparently he's playing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year...

A Grown Up, I love that. I know what you mean. When I was a prefect we used to "welcome" people to the school, and be all polite and courteous and now I'm the one being welcomed. And my teachers all hugged me. And some of the younger girls hugged me too. yey!!

Totally freaks me out. It's weird that we've been at uni for two years, and next year most of my friends will be graduating and getting JOBS. Apparently we're meant to be able to take care of ourselves...it's stupidly scary.

I'll try and elaborate on the guilt next time, but I fear it may turn into a self indulgent "my life is rubbish" post, so apologises in advance :P

Well this needs some careful thinking about! An opportunity to chose my own name. I'll get back to you on that! What's your alias? And Innuit's name, I'm intrigued!

    :D
P.S.I asked my brother and no, he can't bend spoons with his mind hehe

  7. I agree with you on every yummy doctor count. You just always want to give Derek a hug and tell him things will look better in the morning, and feed him Maltesers and warm milk and... :(. *sigh*

:O!!! That is SO cool! Edinburgh huh? Might take a wee trip over to see him then :D! Our writer in residence is Zoe Strachan, and I feel kind of bad that I haven't gotten around to reading any of her stuff yet, but she sounds amazing!

Awwwh!!! I love when younger people look up to you and older people welcome you into their little group! *beams*

Holy cannoli, THAT is bloody terrifying. I'm only going into second year, so I'm not quite so near Adulthood yet, but we're all turning 19 this year and, weirdly, we're more freaked out about that than turning 20, cause 19 is like... THE LAST year of being a kid. EVER. It's like a whole 365 days of being shoved through a door with a sign over it saying The Big Bad World.

I very much doubt it would, but just to cover all bases, let's call it catharsis :D!

Yes it is quite the opportunity! Have a good think; can't have you being a nameless wonder D:! Ahh, see, I don't actually know Innuit language, I just figured it looks kind of like what I imagine it to be. My alias is Ahndee. And that is because one night my friend and I were talking about how Americans pronounce names, and I was like they pronounce 'Andy' like 'ahnDEE'. And so...yeah. It's not a great story, but what they hey!

And LOL. I would have liked to see your brother's face when you asked him that :D!

  8. Hello! Okay, so it's about a year since you wrote this, but what the hell. How is the checklist going..? @_@ My very busy one has been pretty much unchanged in 3 weeks, lol.
You discussed the attractiveness of Matt Smith with your mum and aunty..? Bloody hell. He has an...interesting face. I think the clumsiness makes him a great Doctor :D Ooh, what did you think of the new one?! I totally loved it. Despite being confused.
And your brother's clearly onto a winner there. Ask him to say more wise things!
Hope it's all good! :) *waves*

  9. Hi Humaira :) S'ok, just happy to see you again :)
The checklist is maybe half done. Or a quarter. Everything's kinda a little bit done but nothing is completly done, if that makes sense?
It was the epitome of weirdness. Especially as my auntie started the conversation lol. She's a David Tennant fan.
It was great! But yeah, totally confused. Looking forward to this weeks epi!
